Have you struggled with forming a picture in your mind of the times in which Yeshua/Jesus walked on the planet?
Do you ever wonder what the times of the “Temple” looked like and how people interacted there?
Would you like to develop a more intimate relationship with Yeshua/Jesus?
IF you answered yes to any of these questions, then do yourself a giant favor and take a look at the 1977 movie “Jesus of Nazareth.” This film is your opportunity to really “see” life during Biblical times. This epic television drama will bring to life many scenes in the Torah and the Bible. Robert Powell stars as Yeshua/Jesus with a stunning and gripping performance. Powell is supported by an incredible star-studded cast including Academy Award winners Anne Bancroft, Ernest Borgnine, Laurence Olivier, Christopher Plummer, Anthony Quinn, Rod Steiger, James Earl Jones, and Peter Ustinov. This film dramatizes the birth, life, ministry, crucifixion and resurrection of the Messiah/Christ.
Once you begin to watch this film, you will be immersed into the Hebrew culture from which the Christian faith was birthed. IF you claim to be a Christian, then you really need to fully understand your “birthright”… your “roots”… you really need to fully understand WHERE you came from. After all, IF you claim to be a Christian, then you are actually following the teachings of a Hebrew (Jewish) Rabbi, and you are studying Hebrew scriptures, written by Torah literate and obedient Hebrew men who were inspired by Almighty God HIMSELF, to write what God intended for you to read thousands of years after the fact! IF you don’t fully understand from WHERE you are descended… from WHERE you came from… from WHERE your ROOTS are… then you will NEVER fully understand WHAT the scriptures actually say and WHO Yeshua/Jesus really is!
As you watch this film, do not discard it because you find a few wanderings from biblical texts. In film production, screenwriters often find it necessary to engage in “artistic or creative license.” This film has been received worldwide as generally faithful to the Biblical texts, and even considered more comprehensive than other films. However, with the film already a six-hour production, Director Franco Zeffirelli and his screenwriters found it necessary to take some liberties for the purpose of narrative continuity and brevity. You are encouraged to watch the film as a means to give you “visual references” for the text of the scriptures. Then, while reading and studying the scripture texts, you will begin to actually “see” and “feel” what is described in the scriptures in a new, more real and detailed way.
This film is mezmerizing… and most people find themselves “hooked” from the moment they start viewing it. Many watch the film over and over, each time gaining more clarity and new meaning to what they have studied in the scriptures. “Jesus of Nazareth” received an Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Special Drama. Additionally, James Farentino, who portrayed the apostle Peter, received a nomination for Outstanding Performance by a Supporting Actor in a Drama Special. “Jesus of Nazareth” won awards for Best Cinematography, Best Costume Design, and Best Production Design.
If you didn’t think Yeshua/Jesus was real before watching this film, you most likely will actually “know” HIM by the time you are finished!
